No Question - Iraq War good for Jews everywhere

In his article, Jews question Iraq war (10/22/2004) IJN reporter Ron Kampeas advances the ridiculous assertion that, because freeing 25 million Iraqis from Saddam hasn’t been a cakewalk, Iran only now has become a threat. Kampeas tries to support this nonsensical contention with an irrational quote from Rep. Berkley (D-Nev.) whose claim to fame is that she previously opposed removing the Baathist threat in Iraq at all. President Bush identified Iran as part of “The Axis of Evil” over 3 years ago and has since been diplomatically involved with our European allies to bring Iran’s WMD under UN inspection. Might I suggest that even greater US pressure would have been brought to bear on Iran and even Syria, had this administration not had to suffer the constant whining and second-guessing of (its) domestic critics over the past 2 years.
Kampeas then asserts that, Israel is less safe, because of American actions, than it was while Saddam financed homicide bombers. To support this unfounded accusation, he quotes a sweat-drenched, hyperventilating AlGore speaking before the radically extremist group – Move-On.org. Reporter Kampeas goes on to contend, by quoting a self-avowed New York “hyperliberal”, that because Iraq was not completely pacified and democratized as “swiftly” as it was liberated, the world now loathes Israel and that religious conservatives’ support of Israel is unwelcome and somehow responsible for degrading Judaism. Responsible Jews everywhere remember that prior to the liberation of Iraq, Israelis put on their gas masks and proclaimed to Saddam “bring it on” and that they greatly valued the friendship, support and tourism of America’s Christian Coalition.
Despite the defeat of Rep. Charlie Rangel’s (D-NY.) bill to re-introduce the Draft and Pres. Bush’s debate statement disavowing any plans for a future Draft, Ron Kampeas errs on the side of irresponsible alarmism and includes Rep. Ritter’s (D-Fl.) worry about her son having to serve his country. And, of course, what story about Jews going soft on Iraq would be complete without Kampeas quoting the T-shirt wearing mother who chastised Pres. Bush for not apologizing and taking responsibility for her son’s combat death. Last time I looked, everyone serving chose to make a military commitment and thank G-d for their bravery.
Lastly, Kampeas demeans Jewish organizations by concluding they were “cowed” into supporting the removal of Saddam. These groups supported the liberation of Iraq because it was in the best interest of the United States, in the best interest of Israel and the best interest of Jews around the world. In the end, its hard for me to believe that the same Jewish People, who have fought for over 5,000 years to have their own country, will, so quickly, turn against the “quest for freedom” of those in Iraq.
