Ferrell is full of it again
In The Nation (4/17/05), Denver Post Columnist, John Aloysius Ferrell wants readers to think he’s discovered a magical way to “save” Majority Leader Tom Delay by siding with Rep. Hefley (CO) and House Democrats. Everyone who thinks that Aloysius Ferrell really wants Delay to stay - raise your hands. Just like Democrats everywhere, Ferrell hates Tom Delay because he’s successfully moving Conservative legislation into law. Despite their best efforts, Liberals cannot unearth or even manufacture any wrong-doing sufficient to cause even one Republican, on the House Ethics Committee, to side with the five Democrat jackals eagerly waiting to officially investigate Delay and hang his head on their wall.
In today’s partisan environment where Sen. Democrats misuse the filibuster to block the President’s judicial nominees, it’s easy to understand why Republicans found it necessary to now require a Committee majority to launch an investigation into alleged ethics irregularities. Me thinks that Aloysius Ferrell longs for a return to the days of Kangaroo Courts where rumor and innuendo substitute for fact and proof, especially if a highly effective Republican is in the cross-hairs.
Ferrell claims that GOP leadership “purged” Hefley when, in fact, he was term-limited as Ethics Committee Chair. Ferrell opines that a “drop” of opposition can swell into a tide when, in fact, Delay enjoys the continued support and confidence of 98.6% of Congressional Republicans, 100% of Sen. Republicans and the President of the United States. Ferrell suggests that “if” the House Ethics Committee could be convened, any probe would remain secret because Republican members are loyal to Delay – which may be true. But, what’s to prevent Democrats and their staffers from selectively leaking Committee testimony and continuing to persecute Majority Leader Delay in the Press. I suspect that that is the only “house cleaning” Aloysius Ferrell is really interested in.
