Froma, you're not fool'in me!

In the (10/1/03?) Denver Post editorial “Some of us appreciate war effort”, Froma Harrop fails to understand how important it is for Americans to continue to live our lives, as normally as possible, while the our military takes the War on Terrorism to the enemy. The goal of terrorists is to cause free people to cower and for our economy and Country to retreat, i.e. use less oil. President Bush advanced an Energy Plan, three years ago to reduce our reliance on Middle-Eastern oil but the Democrat minority in the Senate has prevented its passage.

The U.S. military policy governing release of coffin-draped photos predates both Bush administrations and conservatives are rightly concerned with liberal efforts to exclusively focus on the war’s casualties rather than its goals and achievements. It is only because of this Administration’s policies regarding military restraint that it occasionally appears that we lack sufficient troops in Iraq. Your call for more taxes to support more troops is completely disingenuous and designed to then be used politically against Republicans this Fall.

Based on Harrop’s misstatements and distortions of the truth regarding the purpose of their sacrifice, it’s hard to imagine that Froma Harrop really is among those who appreciate the loss of the 800 soldiers in Iraq. She’s just disappointed that it has only taken 800 deaths to bring Democracy to Baghdad, hardly enough to shake the resolve of the American people to win the War on Terror and re-elect George W. Bush.
